Makeup Kitty reviews L’Oreal Colour Riche Nail Polish – Members Only

Today, Makeup Kitty found herself in the mood for pink! Of course, that happens quite often. My nails were ready to go clubbing with a fuchsia L’Oreal Colour Riche nail polish shade called Members Only, from the Trend Setter mood family. You may recall how much I loved L’Oreal Colour Riche nail polish in Not A Cloud In Sight (111) and raved about L’Oreal Colour Riche nail polish in Royalty Reinvented (107). I expected to love Members Only just as much! Unfortunately, that’s not what happened…

I was off to a rocky start when I saw that my brush had one of the fibers longer than the rest. That wasn’t too big of a deal, so I trimmed it off and kept on going. Well, two coats later I could still see through the nail polish! There was also something dark and murky coming through the pleasant pink color, ruining the effect.

Unfazed, I thought the third coat would surely fix it up. Wrong! After three coats, the polish was still not opaque. That strange dark shadowing also didn’t go away. You can probably notice it in the pictures!

All in all, I was very disappointed, since I was clearly poised to love this retro pink varnish, based on the quality of other polishes from the same collection! Alas, it was not to be…

I’m planning to give this polish another try, over a base coat of opaque white. I’ll update this post to let you know what happens!

If you had a better experience with Members Only – please let me know! I’m very curious to find out whether this is a common issue, or just a bad batch.

Makeup Kitty reviews Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadow in Lavish Lavender

Here is another review of Maybelline Color Tattoos brand new Limited Edition shades. You can read my introduction, application technique secrets, etc. in my first post about this collection right here on Makeup Kitty.

Today, let’s play with Lavish Lavender!

I was very excited to try out this silvery purple shade.

Like most of these Summer 2013 Limited Edition eyeshadows, Lavish Lavender looks a whole lot better swatched on my arm than it does on my eyes!

Still, I like this shade a lot. It can get patchy if you’re not careful, but not as much as the worst offender from this collection (stay tuned for the upcoming review – coming soon!)

These cream eyeshadows are a lot more slippery than the original Color Tattoo formula. They can be a bit difficult to build up to full opacity. Here is my simple solution. There is something on our eyelids that doesn’t want to play nice with these stubborn little darlings (even if your skin is not oily). What works well for me is to prep my eyelids by wiping them down with Almay Oil-Free eye makeup remover pads!

A word of caution: be careful not to wipe too close to your lash line, because if the liquid from the pads gets into your eyes, it will sting. Just swipe the pad across your eyelids in a quick, gentle fashion.

Then, wait a couple of minutes to let your lids dry down before applying these fickle duochromes. This approach seems to do away with much of the slippery, patchy texture that frustrated me (and countless others) during application. Please let me know if this technique helps you too!

To get Lavish Lavender looking deep and multi-dimensional, I applied it over black eyeshadow.

As I’m sure you know, the duochrome effect becomes magnified, when it is applied over black (or dark) base color.

You’ve seen me play with that idea by applying Revlon Chroma Chameleon nail polish in Amethyst over dark navy base.

Speaking of applying this shadow over black, if you use a brush and glide it on top of any black eyeliner, you will end up with a very unusual shimmering, glimmering, long-wearing color!

After much experimentation with summer 2013 Limited Edition Color Tattoo eyeshadows, I’ve come to the conclusion that they are best applied with your finger and blended thoroughly, before they dry (which means, you have to work very quickly). I’ve tried applying them over several different kinds of eyeshadow primers, most of which seemed to hamper the process. For me, these particular Color Tattoos seem to work best on a bare lid or on top of Lancôme Eye shadow Base Aquatique (waterproof eyeshadow primer). Most importantly, don’t forget to prime your eyelid by wiping it down with an Oil-Free Almay Eye Makeup Remover Pad (as described above).

Lavish Lavender easily remained on my lids for hours, but it did start to fade after couple of hours. Beware that it will emphasize every wrinkle, skin crease or imperfection on your eyelid! This is a beautiful, but unforgiving color.

Makeup Kitty reviews Rose Bud Kiss Stick by Flower Beauty

Yesterday, Makeup Kitty happily celebrated her Birthday. For special occasions, I always reach for red lipstick.

With great excitement, I can finally report that my search for the perfect red lip color is over!

Of course, that doesn’t mean that I’ll ever stop experimenting with new shades of makeup…but I digress. Rose Bud Kiss Stick High-Shine Lip Color by Flower Beauty blew my mind for so many reasons, I had to make a list!

This is a gorgeous, gorgeous red color!

When I put it on, I feel like it brightens up my entire face.

It’s blue-based, bright (but not too bright) and simply amazing! Out of all red lipsticks I own (including Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, MAC and many others), none have impressed me or flattered my complexion the way Rose Bud does! I love, love, love this lipstick.

As I always do for the purpose of accurately reviewing lip colors, in these photos Rose Bud was applied with no lip pencil. It did not feather or bleed at all!

Of course, in real life I wear all of my lipsticks with lip pencil (and highly recommend that you do the same), but it’s still good to know that Rose Bud doesn’t intend to go traveling all over your face.

Rose Bud is described as a High-Shine Lip Color. It is exactly that! This lipstick goes on very smoothly and has a great sheen to it!

Rose Bud feels like silky rose petals on my lips. It’s moisturizing and very comfortable to wear.

Rose Bud is very highly pigmented, gliding onto lips with rich, saturated color.

I certainly understand why they call Rose Bud a Kiss Stick! It smells divine! If you like the vanilla scent of MAC lipsticks, you will love Flower Beauty’s Kiss Sticks. This lipstick smells like a fresh flower blossom, with hints of delectable milky vanilla. I find this scent very delicious, but by no means too sweet. It is very delicate and subtle. I think Flower Beauty really hit the mark with this scent. I love it – big time!

Rose Bud performed like a champion on my lips. It effortlessly stayed on, even after meals and drinks! I barely had to touch it up (mainly I did it just to smell that wonderful scent again). There was yet another thing that impressed me about it. Normally, pretty much all lipsticks immediately start to wear off in the area where my top lip touches the bottom one, because of the moisture. Not this one! Rose Bud had no trouble clinging to my lips all day long. It didn’t crease, fade or move.

Another thing worth mentioning is that Flower Beauty is a cruelty-free company – they never test on animals!

Flower Beauty cosmetics are proudly made in the U.S.A.

Makeup Kitty is happy to recommend this gorgeous product to anyone who’s in the market for a red lipstick! There is not one bad thing I could say about Rose Bud by Flower Beauty. Like a stunning red rose, it’s beautiful in every way!
